Cathy Young

Cathy Lea Young, 70, of Keaau, died Aug. 14, 2022, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Fresno, Calif., she was an educational assistant at Keonepoko Elementary School and was also a member of the Paradise Park Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Visitation 3-4 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel. Memorial services at 4 p.m. Casual attire; no flowers.

She is survived by husband, Bruce Young of Keaau; daughters, Summer (Sy Frazier) Sartain, Ke’ala (Troy) Tavares and Cheyenne (Kalai Filoteo) Young, all of Keaau; brother, Chris Sartain of Texas; sister, Lisa (Robert) Kauka of California; and numerous hanai children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Ruth Elia

Ruth Keikilani Kalaualii Iokia Akau Elia, 87, of Pahoa, died Aug. 8, 2022, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kalihi, Oahu, she was a retired bulk handler with the Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Company and a former papaya packer for P &S Papaya Farms and AMFAC Papaya and was also a member of the Pahoa Higashi Kumiai.

Visitation 9-11 a.m. Sept. 17 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel. Memorial service at 11 a.m. Aloha attire; no flowers, but lei are welcome.

She is survived by sons, Daniel Elia of Honolulu and Raymond Elia of Kurtistown; daughters, Maria Elia and Bernice (Kawika) Kaleikini of Pahoa, Ruth (Gary) Kala of Keaau and Lynn Elia of Kaueleau, Puna; sister, Margaret Lopes of Nanakuli; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Antone Santiago Jr.

Antone “Toto” Martin Santiago Jr., 84, of Kapaau, died on Aug. 6, 2022 at his residence. Born Dec. 11, 1937 in North Kohala, he was a mechanic/tire boy for the former Kohala Sugar Co.., a former worker for Capital Wood Chips in Kawaihae, former worker for Ted Sparrow’s Pig Farm in Kohala, retired farm hand for Alicia Kings Ranch, and member of Hawi Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Kohala Hunting Club.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Sept. 17, 2022, at Hawi Sacred Heart Catholic Church; funeral Mass at 10 a.m.; burial to follow at Hawi County Cemetery. Casual attire.

He is survived by, daughter, Barbara Santiago of Kapaau; son, Kenneth Santiago of Kapaau; brother, Joseph Santiago of Hilo; sister, Elizabeth Kagimoto of Kohala; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
